Background:

  • Medial maxillectomy is a surgical procedure for tumors of the maxilla.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the long-term results of endoscopic medial maxillectomy versus conventional medial maxillectomy.
  • To evaluate recurrence rates and overall success in patients undergoing these procedures.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective study involving 28 patients with maxillary tumors (adenocarcinoma, inverted papilloma, malignant melanoma).
  • Thirteen patients underwent endoscopic medial maxillectomy, and 15 underwent conventional medial maxillectomy.
  • Postoperative follow-up ranged from 12 to 48 months.

Main Results:

  • The endoscopic group had a 7.6% recurrence rate (1/13), with an overall success rate of 92.4%.
