Summary

This study developed the Patient Reported Impact of Spasticity Measure (PRISM) to assess spasticity effects on quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). The PRISM effectively measures the impact of spasticity, including positive effects, in veterans with SCI.

Background:

  • Spasticity is a common symptom following spinal cord injury (SCI).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate a patient-reported instrument to measure the impact of spasticity on quality of life in persons with SCI.
  • To create a comprehensive tool that includes both negative and positive effects of spasticity.

  • A developmental form of the Patient Reported Impact of Spasticity Measure (PRISM) was created based on 24 semistructured interviews.
