Summary

Physical activity in Swedish children aged 6-10 is fairly stable. Baseline activity levels strongly predict future activity, especially in boys, with higher activity being more consistent over time.

    • Baseline physical activity showed a significant correlation with follow-up activity (r=0.59), stronger in boys (r=0.72) than girls (r=0.51).
    • High physical activity levels demonstrated greater stability (r=0.74) compared to low levels (r=0.55).
    • Physical activity at follow-up was predicted by baseline activity and season (R(2)=0.46), while BMI SDS was predicted by baseline BMI SDS and age (R(2)=0.90).

    Conclusions:

    • Objectively measured physical activity is fairly stable in 6-10-year-old children.
    • Early physical activity levels and seasonal factors are important predictors of sustained activity.
    • Baseline BMI SDS and age are significant predictors of BMI SDS trajectory in this age group.
