This study presents a new method for measuring electromagnetic field exposure from wireless devices. It allows for accurate assessment of compliance with safety guidelines, even in complex environments with multiple transmitters.
Area of Science:
- Electromagnetics
- Human Health
- Wireless Communication
Background:
- Growing use of wireless devices raises concerns about electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure and health.
- International safety guidelines and reference levels (RLs) exist for EMF exposure.
- Current measurement methods for RLs compliance have limitations in complex environments.
Purpose of the Study:
- To address limitations in current EMF measurement techniques.
- To propose a novel method for assessing RLs compliance in multi-transmitter environments.
- To enable accurate evaluation of individual source contributions and wave polarization.
Main Methods:
- Development of a novel measurement scheme for electromagnetic field strength.
- Implementation of a method independent of incident wave polarization.
- Techniques for evaluating single-source contributions in mixed-field environments.
Main Results:
- The proposed method overcomes drawbacks of broadband measurements.
- It provides spectrum distribution information, crucial for frequency-dependent RLs.
- The technique allows for distinguishing individual transmitter contributions.
Conclusions:
- The new method offers a more accurate and reliable way to assess EMF exposure compliance.
- It is particularly valuable in complex environments with multiple wireless sources.
- This advancement supports public safety and regulatory adherence for wireless technologies.
