Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between low-humidity working environments and the prevalence, severity, and frequency of facial dermatitis symptoms.
  • To compare symptom occurrence in male employees exposed to low-humidity clean rooms versus natural factory environments.

Main Methods:

  • Cross-sectional study comparing 71 male employees in a low-humidity clean room with 144 male employees in a natural factory environment.
  • Interviewer-administered questionnaires assessed subjective symptoms of facial dermatitis (itching, redness, urticaria).
  • Percentage prevalence ratios (PPR) and confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to compare symptom prevalence between groups.

Main Results:

  • Significantly higher prevalence ratios (PPR) were observed for itching (1.65), redness (1.96), and urticaria (2.53) in the low-humidity group.

  • These findings confirm previous clinical and laboratory observations linking low humidity to increased facial dermatitis.
