Background:

  • Lipoblastomas are rare, benign tumors of infancy and childhood composed of immature fat cells (lipoblasts).
  • Omental involvement is uncommon, with only a few cases previously reported in the literature.
  • Genetic abnormalities, particularly involving chromosome 8q, are characteristic of lipoblastomas.

Observation:

  • A large intra-abdominal mass was discovered in a 6-month-old boy during a routine examination.
  • Imaging revealed a solid mass initially suspected to be of hepatic origin but surgically found in the omentum.
  • Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lipoblastoma based on the presence of varying stages of adipocytes.
