Caffeic acid, a 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) inhibitor, showed antidepressant effects in mice by preserving brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels. This effect was dependent on 5-LOX, indicating its role in regulating BDNF.
