Summary

Calcifying fibrous pseudotumor (CFT) is a rare soft tissue tumor. This case report highlights its intrabdominal occurrence and excellent prognosis after surgical removal.

Background:

Calcifying fibrous pseudotumor (CFT) is a rare benign soft tissue neoplasm.
Initially described in peripheral axial soft tissues, CFT has recently been reported in intra-abdominal locations.
Distinguishing CFT from other soft tissue lesions, particularly myofibroblastic tumors, is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management.

Observation:

This case report details an intra-abdominal calcifying fibrous pseudotumor.
The lesion presented with characteristic lymphoplasmacytic infiltration and abundant calcification.
The patient experienced a long-term disease-free follow-up after complete surgical excision.

Findings:

Calcifying fibrous pseudotumor (CFT) is a distinct entity, not a myofibroblastic tumor, despite some overlapping features.
Abundant calcification and lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate are key diagnostic features.
Complete excision is curative, with an excellent prognosis.

Implications:

Accurate recognition of calcifying fibrous pseudotumor (CFT) is essential for appropriate patient management.
Understanding its distinct clinicopathologic features aids in differentiating it from potentially malignant soft tissue tumors.
This case contributes to the understanding of intra-abdominal CFT and reinforces its favorable prognosis.
