Beta-blocker use in patients with traumatic brain injury is linked to better survival rates. This effect was most pronounced in older patients with severe head injuries, showing a significant reduction in mortality.

- Beta-blocker use was independently associated with reduced in-hospital mortality (adjusted odds ratio: 0.54; 95% CI, 0.33 to 0.91; p = 0.01).
- In subgroup analysis, elderly patients (>=55 years) with severe head injury showed a marked mortality reduction with beta-blockers (28% vs. 60%; odds ratio: 0.3).
Conclusions:
- Beta-blockade is independently associated with improved survival in patients with traumatic brain injury.
- The most significant survival benefit of beta-blockers was observed in older patients with severe head injuries.
