Marrow mesenchymal cell therapy, using cultured cells in artificial skin, successfully regenerated tissue in 18 of 20 patients with severe skin wounds. This minimally invasive bone marrow aspiration technique offers a practical approach to skin regeneration.
Area of Science:
- Regenerative Medicine
- Tissue Engineering
- Dermatology
Background:
- Marrow mesenchymal cells possess stem cell properties valuable for regenerative medicine.
- Clinical applications of marrow mesenchymal cells have been limited.
- A novel wound treatment utilizes improved marrow mesenchymal cell culture and artificial skin material.
Observation:
- A composite graft of cultured marrow mesenchymal cells within artificial dermis was created.
- Subcutaneous implantation in mice demonstrated tissue regeneration.
- The technique was applied to 20 patients with intractable skin wounds.
Findings:
- Eighteen of 20 patients experienced significant wound healing.
- Autologous marrow mesenchymal cell transplantation proved therapeutically effective.
- The procedure involved minimally invasive bone marrow aspiration.
Implications:
- This marrow mesenchymal cell/artificial dermis composite graft enables skin regeneration.
- The technique is practical and less invasive than traditional skin grafting.
- Further clinical applications in regenerative medicine are suggested.
