IR Spectrometers01:25

IR Spectrometers

There are two main infrared (IR) spectrophotometers: dispersive IR spectrometers and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers. In a dispersive IR spectrometer, a beam of infrared radiation produced by a hot wire is divided into two parallel equal-intensity beams using mirrors. One beam passes through the sample, while another is a reference beam. The beams then move through the monochromator, which separates the radiations into a continuous spectrum of different frequencies. The...

    Summary
    This summary is machine-generated.

A third-order aberration analysis for reflective grating interferometers (RGI) in noncollimated setups reveals self-aberrations. Despite this, RGIs can isolate and measure coma aberrations, particularly in converged configurations.

    Area of Science:

    • Optical Engineering
    • Interferometry
    • Aberration Analysis

    Background:

    • Reflective grating interferometers (RGIs) are typically used in collimated configurations.
    • In collimated setups, RGIs are sensitive only to coma aberration.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop a third-order aberration analysis for a noncollimated reflective grating interferometer (RGI).
    • To explore the potential of RGIs in noncollimated configurations for isolating and measuring coma aberration.

    Main Methods:

    • Third-order aberration analysis was applied to a reflective grating interferometer (RGI) in a noncollimated configuration.
    • A specific configuration for isolating and measuring coma was proposed.

    Main Results:

    • A noncollimated RGI, while introducing self-aberrations from the grating, remains sensitive to coma.
    • A non-null fringe pattern is observed due to these self-aberrations.
    • The proposed configuration allows for the isolation and measurement of coma.

    Conclusions:

    • Reflective grating interferometers (RGIs) in noncollimated configurations can be utilized for coma aberration measurement.
    • Converged configurations are advantageous for avoiding limitations associated with nearly collimated beams.
