Summary

Radiocontrast media increases endothelin (ET) levels, impacting kidney function. Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) did not alter ET levels but preserved glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in a canine model of radiocontrast-induced nephropathy.

  • Endothelin (ET) is a potent vasoconstrictor implicated in acute renal dysfunction.
  • Radiocontrast-induced nephropathy (RCIN) involves renal hemodynamic changes.
  • Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) has shown potential in attenuating early renal responses to radiocontrast.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if intravenous radiocontrast increases endogenous plasma and urinary ET in a canine model of RCIN.
  • To determine if intra-aortic ANF modulates these ET responses.
  • To assess the effect of ANF on renal function during RCIN.
