Saphenous vein peripherally inserted central catheters: Technique, indications and safety issues

• Average screening time was 81.2 seconds.

• All insertions were technically successful.
• No major complications were reported.
• Two patients experienced localized cellulitis at the insertion site.

Implications:

• Saphenous vein PICC placement is a feasible and relatively safe alternative venous access method.
• This technique may be beneficial for patients requiring prolonged antibiotics or chemotherapy.
• Further research can optimize safety and expand indications for saphenous vein PICC use.
