  • Epidemiology

Context:

  • Health reporting is a traditional public health service (öffentlicher Gesundheitsdienst--OGD) task experiencing a resurgence.
  • Health reports provide ongoing information on health service structure, function, and outcomes.
  • Target audiences include health service decision-makers, policy institutions, and the general public.

Purpose:

  • To inform stakeholders about the health service.
  • To support the definition of operational targets within the health service.
  • To highlight the need for improved population health status data.

Summary:

  • Differentiates between basic (broad data/indicator-oriented) and special (in-depth, topic-oriented) health reports.
  • Suggests public health services can conduct disease risk comparison studies.
  • Emphasizes the need for epidemiological and biostatistical expertise for such studies, especially for costly hot-spot investigations.

Impact:

  • Improves transparency and accountability in public health services.
  • Facilitates evidence-based decision-making and policy development.
  • Identifies critical data gaps for effective public health planning and intervention.
