Systemic inflammation, genetic susceptibility and lung function

Low-grade systemic inflammation, indicated by C-reactive protein (CRP) and IL-6, is linked to reduced lung function. Specific CRP gene variations may protect against this decline, suggesting a causal link between inflammation and airway diseases.
