Summary

Trigeminal schwannomas (TS) are rare tumors. Total surgical resection via skull base approach offers acceptable outcomes with low mortality and morbidity for these patients.

  • Complete tumor excision was achieved in 76% of cases with available radiological follow-up.
  • Mortality was 1 patient; permanent morbidity (15%) included cranial nerve palsies and corneal opacity.
  • Conclusions:

    • Trigeminal schwannomas necessitate total surgical resection.
    • Skull base approaches yield acceptable results for TS.
    • Surgical treatment of TS is associated with low mortality and permanent morbidity rates.
