Abstract:
Adequate dental care for children demands knowledge and expertise in several branches in dentistry. In order to treat children the dentist must have at his disposal an approach, attitude and motivation specific for different age groups. The preventive measures for each category are described, followed by remarks regarding the curative care and the degree in which the children are cared for. In view of the disadvantages of the so-called horizontal referrals, a good regulation is needed. Furthermore, a specialization in child dental health is proposed.
