Summary

Children with chronic renal failure (CRF) often exhibit biochemical hypothyroidism, indicated by elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and reduced triiodothyronine (T3) levels. Early kidney transplantation may help correct these metabolic imbalances.

  • Assessed serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and triiodothyronine (T3).
  • Correlated thyroid hormone levels with hemoglobin and blood urea nitrogen (BUN).

  • Children with CRF showed significantly higher serum TSH levels compared to controls.
  • Children with CRF exhibited significantly lower serum T3 levels than healthy children.
