Summary

Healthcare exposure risk factors poorly predict community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) infection characteristics. Defining CA-MRSA solely by absence of risk factors underestimates the true burden of epidemic CA-MRSA disease.

Outlook:
