Summary

Laser interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) safely denatures thyroid tissue for autonomous hyperthyroidism. This minimally invasive Nd:YAG laser treatment shows promise, though human studies are needed.

  • Transient decreases in FT(4) and TSH were noted, with a significant decline in TT(3) during the first week.
  • Hormone levels recovered within 10 days, and histological examination revealed clear coagulation zones with fibrosis.

  • Interstitial thyroid ablation with a Nd:YAG laser is a safe and effective minimally invasive procedure.
  • Further long-term studies in humans are required to validate these findings for autonomous hyperthyroidism treatment.
