Background:
- Posterior capsular opacification (PCO) is a common complication after cataract surgery, driven by residual lens epithelial cell (LEC) proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and migration.
- Proteasome inhibition has been previously shown to suppress LEC proliferation and EMT.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the role of proteasome inhibition in preventing LEC migration.
- To determine if proteasome inhibition suppresses matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression and activity, thereby inhibiting LEC migration.

- Proteasome inhibition presents a promising therapeutic strategy for preventing PCO.
