Background:

  • Central nervous system (CNS) involvement is common in chronic liver disease, manifesting as overt or minimal hepatic encephalopathy (HE).
  • Chronic acquired hepatocerebral degeneration (CAHD) is a progressive encephalopathy in liver cirrhosis patients, causing neuropsychiatric and movement disorders.
  • Cognitive dysfunction is prevalent in CAHD, but its specific profile remains understudied.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically characterize the neuropsychological profile of cognitive impairment in patients with CAHD.
  • To investigate the specific cognitive deficits associated with CAHD.

  • Eight patients with CAHD underwent comprehensive neuropsychological assessment, excluding acute liver decompensation.
