Summary

Actinic lichen nitidus is a distinct photoinduced skin condition affecting deeply pigmented individuals. While treatable with sun avoidance and topical steroids, it often recurs seasonally.

Background:

Actinic lichen nitidus is a photoinduced lichenoid eruption.
It shares histologic features with classic lichen nitidus but has distinct clinical presentations.

Observation:

This condition primarily affects individuals with deeply pigmented skin (Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI).
Lesions typically appear in sun-exposed areas and are more prevalent during summer months.

Findings:

The primary treatment involves sun avoidance and topical corticosteroids.
Seasonal recurrences are a common characteristic of actinic lichen nitidus.

Implications:

Actinic lichen nitidus possesses unique properties distinguishing it from classic lichen nitidus.
