Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Otorhinolaryngology

Background:

  • Esthesioneuroblastoma is a rare malignant tumor originating from the olfactory epithelium.
  • Typically, it presents unilaterally with potential contralateral extension via direct invasion.

Observation:

  • This case presents a unique instance of bilateral, noncontiguous (multifocal) esthesioneuroblastoma.
  • The patient was diagnosed with two distinct primary tumors.

Findings:

  • The patient was treated with preoperative radiation followed by surgical resection.
  • This approach was successful in managing the multifocal disease.

Implications:

  • Esthesioneuroblastoma should be included in the differential diagnosis for multifocal, noncontiguous intranasal and paranasal sinus masses.
