To assess the effectiveness of antipsychotic medications in individuals with schizophrenia.
To provide data for clinical decision-making and policy development regarding schizophrenia treatment.
To examine factors influencing medication adherence and clinical outcomes.

Main Methods:

The Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness (CATIE) involved a large, diverse population of patients with schizophrenia.
Medications were randomly assigned in a blinded manner to minimize bias.
