Summary

Surgical masks, often used to prevent wound infections, do not provide adequate respiratory protection. This study found that surgical masks failed both filter performance and facial fit tests, deeming them unsuitable as respiratory devices.

Facial fit characteristics were inadequate for effective respiratory protection.
Surgical masks cannot be considered respiratory protection devices based on these findings.
