Immediate loading of dental implants in the edentulous maxilla with 4-6 implants showed a 92.8% survival rate at 12 months. This technique is effective for fixed prostheses in the upper jaw.

  • To evaluate the 12-month implant survival rate after immediate loading of 4 to 6 implants with fixed screw-retained prostheses in edentulous maxillae.

Main Methods:

  • 21 edentulous patients received 4-6 implants (n=111) and fixed provisional prostheses within 24 hours.
  • Implants had insertion torques of at least 40 Ncm and were placed in healed bone or extraction sockets.
  • Radiographic examinations were performed at prosthesis placement and 12 months post-surgery.

  • The cumulative 12-month implant survival rate was 92.8%, with a 100% prostheses survival rate.
  • No significant differences in survival were found based on implant type, placement site, or angulation.
  • Mean marginal bone loss was 0.84 mm over 12 months.

Conclusions:

  • Four to six implants are sufficient to support fixed screw-retained prostheses in the edentulous maxilla with immediate loading.
  • The procedure demonstrated a high survival rate and predictable outcomes at 12 months.
