A new Moral Judgment Test in Physical Education (PE) was developed and validated. This test effectively assesses students' moral reasoning within the context of physical education, showing adequate construct validity for educational use.
Area of Science:
- Educational Psychology
- Physical Education Pedagogy
- Moral Development
Background:
- Ethical behavior is a crucial component of physical education.
- Assessing moral judgment in students is essential for holistic development.
- Existing tools may not be tailored to the specific context of physical education.
Purpose of the Study:
- To construct a new test measuring moral judgment in physical education students.
- To estimate the validity of this new instrument, the Moral Judgment Test in Physical Education (PE).
- To ensure the test is suitable for use within physical education settings.
Main Methods:
- Developed the Moral Judgment Test-PE.
- Administered the new test and Lind's Moral Judgment Test to 281 students across different grade levels (7-12) and university.
- Assessed the construct validity of the Moral Judgment Test-PE using four criteria from Lind's moral theory.
Main Results:
- The Moral Judgment Test-PE demonstrated adequate construct validity.
- The new PE-specific test showed a positive, albeit weak, correlation with the original Moral Judgment Test.
- The findings support the reliability and applicability of the new instrument.
Conclusions:
- The Moral Judgment Test-PE is a valid instrument for assessing moral judgment in physical education.
- The test's sufficient construct validity supports its use in physical education contexts.
- This tool can aid educators in teaching and evaluating ethical behavior in students.
