Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate sputum neuraminidase as a clinically sensitive screening test for pulmonary tuberculosis.
  • To assess the correlation between sputum neuraminidase levels and TB diagnosis.

Main Methods:

  • Quantification of sputum lysosomal enzymes, specifically neuraminidase, from mycobacterium-infected macrophages.
  • Utilized fixed-volume samplers and variable volume micropipets for enzyme measurement.

Main Results:

  • A high correlation (0.995) was observed between different measurement methods.
