Summary

Morgagni hernia, a rare diaphragmatic defect, can manifest in adulthood. This case highlights a 75-year-old woman successfully treated for this condition via open surgery.

Background:

Morgagni hernia is a rare congenital diaphragmatic anomaly, typically presenting in infancy.
Adult presentation is infrequent, often leading to delayed diagnosis.

Observation:

A 75-year-old female presented with epigastric discomfort and vomiting.
Initial diagnosis of calculous cholecystitis was unresponsive to antibiotic treatment.

Findings:

Further investigations confirmed the presence of Morgagni hernia.
The patient underwent successful open surgical repair.

Implications:

This case underscores the importance of considering rare diagnoses in adult patients with persistent gastrointestinal symptoms.
