Abstract:
Serefeddin Sabuncuoğlu (1385-1468) presents medieval management of pediatric skull fractures in his textbook Cerrahiyyetu'l Haniyye (Imperial Surgery). He was a Turkish surgeon who lived in the Ottoman Empire during the 15th century. Cerrahiyyetu'l Haniyye, the first example of surgical textbook in the Turkish medical literature, was beautifully illustrated with his own drawings. In this historical article, the sections of Cerrahiyyetu'l Haniyye pertinent to surgical techniques and instruments for pediatric head injury are critically reviewed.

The long sutures located between the skull bones are not straight but instead follow irregular, tightly twisting paths. These twisting lines tightly...
Fractures: Bone Repair
Minor fractures with no bone displacement are treated by immobilizing the fractured bone using a cast or splint. However, in the case of fractures with displaced bones, the broken bones are repositioned before immobilization to ensure successful healing without deformation and loss of function. The realignment of fractured bone ends is performed through a process called reduction. If the procedure...
