Characterization of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis isolated from surface waters

Nine Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis strains were misidentified as enterococci in surface water samples. These bacteria can mimic enterococci on selective media and in biochemical tests, highlighting the need for accurate identification methods.
