Trefoil factors (TFF) are present in human milk, with concentrations of TFF1 and TFF3 declining rapidly in the weeks after birth. Further research is needed to understand their role in infant gut development and protection against necrotizing enterocolitis.

- TFF concentrations decrease rapidly during the initial weeks postpartum.
