Summary

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) 18 and 16 DNA were detected in cervical adenocarcinoma biopsies. HPV 18 was more prevalent in premenopausal women, suggesting a link to cervical cancer epidemiology.

Background:

  • Previous studies suggest a link between Human Papillomavirus (HPV) 18 and cervical adenocarcinoma.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the presence and prevalence of HPV 16 and HPV 18 in cervical adenocarcinoma biopsies from Northern Sweden.
  • To explore potential associations between HPV status, menopausal status, and previous cytology findings in patients with cervical adenocarcinoma.

Main Methods:

  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was employed to detect HPV DNA in paraffin-embedded cervical adenocarcinoma tissue samples.
  • A total of 26 cases were analyzed for the presence of HPV 16 and HPV 18 DNA.

  • HPV DNA was detected in 42% (11/26) of the cervical adenocarcinoma cases.
