One-lung overventilation does not induce inflammation in the normally ventilated contralateral lung

Mechanical ventilation can cause lung injury. This study found that overstretching one lung did not trigger inflammation in the other, challenging early positive feedback theories in ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI).

- This suggests localized effects of VILI rather than a systemic or cross-lung inflammatory cascade in this model.
