Effects of scatter radiation on ICD and CRT function

Scatter radiation from radiotherapy did not cause malfunctions in implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) or cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT)-ICDs in this study. While rare, precautions are advised during radiation therapy for patients with these cardiac devices.

- No clear contraindications exist for radiotherapy in patients with ICDs or CRT-ICDs.
- Precautions to avoid direct radiation and close patient monitoring before and after radiotherapy are recommended.
