Background:

  • Epibulbar choristomas are rare congenital tumors composed of tissue elements not normally found in the episclera.
  • Microphthalmos is a condition characterized by abnormally small eyes, often associated with other ocular anomalies.

Observation:

  • A 3-year-old boy presented with a large epibulbar choristoma causing significant mechanical erosion and disfigurement of his left eye.
  • The choristoma was associated with microphthalmos of the affected eye.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent a simple partial tumor excision procedure.
  • The surgical intervention effectively addressed the local mechanical erosion and the disfiguring appearance caused by the tumor.

Implications:

  • Partial excision can be a viable surgical option for large epibulbar choristomas, particularly when cosmesis is a concern.
  • This approach can lead to satisfactory cosmetic outcomes in pediatric patients with congenital ocular tumors.
