  • To compare tuberculosis transmission patterns between index cases with multiple secondary patients (MSP) and those with a single secondary patient (SSP).

  • Retrospective analysis of 10,088 TB patients registered in Aichi Prefecture (1989-2003).
  • Epidemiological links were identified to classify index and secondary cases.
  • Index Case Rate (ICR) and Epidemic Source Rate (ESR) were calculated based on patient characteristics.

  • 337 index cases identified: 69 with MSP and 268 with SSP.
  • Significant differences in ESR for MSP were observed based on age, cavitary lesion presence, and bacillary amount.
