Background:

The pinledge retainer was a primary treatment in prosthodontic dentistry before metal ceramic crowns.
Metal ceramic retainers have been the standard for fixed partial dentures (FPDs) for approximately 40 years.
Advancements in resin-bonded and all-ceramic retainers may suggest pinledge retainers are obsolete.

Observation:

This clinical report presents various pinledge retainer types.
Case examples illustrate the application of pinledge retainers for restoring missing teeth.
The report also shows their use in splinting teeth.

Findings:

Pinledge retainers can be effectively used to restore missing teeth.
These retainers are suitable for splinting teeth.
Patient examples demonstrate that pinledge retainers can achieve excellent esthetics.

Implications:

The pinledge retainer is not an outdated modality and remains a valuable treatment option.
It can provide superior esthetic outcomes for appearance-conscious patients.
This technique offers a viable alternative for specific fixed partial denture cases.
