Summary

Brucellae bacteria can cause uveitis, an eye inflammation. This was confirmed in two patients with high serum agglutination test (SAT) titers, indicating a significant infection.

  • Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye.
  • Brucellosis is a systemic infection caused by Brucella bacteria.
  • Ocular manifestations of brucellosis can include uveitis.

Observation:

  • Case 1: A 30-year-old female presented with uveitis in her left eye.
  • Case 2: A 12-year-old female was diagnosed with brucellosis-induced uveitis in her left eye.
  • Both patients exhibited elevated serum agglutination test (SAT) and SAT/Coombs titers.

Findings:

  • Positive SAT titers were 1:320 and 1:160 for Case 1.
  • Positive SAT and SAT/Coombs titers were 1:1280 for Case 2.
  • Brucellae organisms were confirmed as the causative agent of uveitis in both cases.
