Summary

A rare giant congenital urethral polyp was found in a newborn female. This large, fleshy tumor at the introitus was successfully treated with simple surgical excision.

  • Congenital urethral polyps are rare benign tumors that can cause urinary obstruction in infants.
  • Giant congenital urethral polyps are exceptionally uncommon, posing unique diagnostic and management challenges.

Observation:

  • A case report details a newborn female presenting with a large, fleshy, exuberant tumor at the introitus, located between the labia minora.
  • The tumor's macroscopic appearance suggested a significant congenital anomaly of the urethra.

Findings:

  • Histological examination revealed the polyp was composed of orderly arranged layers of transitional and squamous epithelium externally.
  • The core of the mass consisted of loose connective tissue and smooth muscle, consistent with a polypoid urethral lesion.
