Rosette-forming glioneuronal tumors are rare, low-grade mixed glial and neuronal neoplasms. Characterization of these tumors aids in differentiating them from other glioneuronal tumors.

Background:

  • Rosette-forming glioneuronal tumor (RGNT) is a newly described entity characterized as a mixed glial and neuronal neoplasm.
  • This study aims to better characterize RGNT by describing two cases and reviewing existing literature.

Observation:

  • Two female patients, aged 38 and 51, presented with neurological symptoms and intracranial masses.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging revealed masses in the fourth ventricle and cerebellum.
  • Surgical excision, either subtotal or gross total, was performed with varying degrees of transient morbidity.

Findings:

  • Microscopic examination confirmed RGNTs composed of neurocytic rosettes and glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive astrocytes.
  • No histological anaplasia was observed in either case.
