Background:

Computerized immunization registries are vital for effective vaccination programs.
They improve vaccine delivery, identify immunization gaps, and assess coverage levels.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the implementation status of computerized immunization registries across Italy.
To identify regional disparities in registry computerization.

Main Methods:

A national survey was conducted in 2007 involving all 21 Italian Regional Health Authorities (RHAs).
Data was collected via questionnaires and subsequent telephone verification to update information.

Main Results:

70% of Italian Local Health Units (LHUs) utilized computerized immunization registries.
Significant regional disparities were observed, with 28.6% of Southern Italian regions having no computerized registries.
60% of computerized registries were linked with population registries.

Conclusions:

The study highlights a need for improved implementation of computerized immunization registries in Italy.
Particular attention is required for Southern Italian regions to achieve equitable vaccination program support.
