1Neurosurgery Department, VKV American Hospital, Guzelbahce Sk. No: 20, 34365-Nisantasi-Istanbul, Turkey. alifahirozer@gmail.com
Objective:
Various types of retractors have been used in cervical disk operations. The presented device is modified from previous cervical retractor which uses our cervical operations routinely. The new product provides us easy practice during the surgery.
Method:
The retractor consists of two blades which are screwed on the vertebral surfaces. It also provides distraction of disk level during the operation.
Results:
This retractor has been used in over 100 cases and there have not been any complications involving the carotid artery, trachea and oesophagus.
Conclusion:
New design provides a significant surgical exposure area under the surgical microscope. When using this retractor, there is no need to use a vertebral spreader because the retractor itself can be used as a vertebral spreader and it is possible to carry out the Smith-Robinson type fusion.
