Summary

This study found no significant link between tissue factor (TF) expression and age or gender in participants. Therefore, increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in older males may not stem from TF levels.

Background:

  • Tissue factor (TF) expression on monocytes is typically low in healthy individuals.
  • Elevated TF levels are observed in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD).
  • CVD risk increases with age and is higher in males, suggesting a potential link with TF.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the influence of age and gender on TF expression.
  • To explore the relationship between TF expression, BMI, and total fat intake.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluated TF expression in female (n=44) and male (n=27) subjects.
  • Assessed the impact of age, gender, BMI, and total fat intake on TF levels.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in TF expression were found between male and female subgroups.
  • No correlation was observed between TF expression and age, BMI, or total fat intake in either gender.

Conclusions:

  • Age and gender do not appear to significantly influence TF expression in the study population.
