Desensitization to thalidomide in a patient with multiple myeloma

Thalidomide can cause itchy rashes in multiple myeloma patients. This case report details successful oral desensitization, allowing a patient to tolerate necessary thalidomide treatment.

- The patient underwent an oral desensitization protocol due to the necessity of thalidomide for her multiple myeloma.
- Within five days, the patient successfully tolerated 100 mg of oral thalidomide.
- This represents the first reported case of successful thalidomide desensitization for cutaneous adverse reactions.
Implications:
- Oral desensitization can be a viable strategy for managing necessary thalidomide treatment in patients experiencing cutaneous adverse reactions.
- This approach may improve treatment adherence and outcomes for multiple myeloma patients requiring thalidomide.
- Further research into desensitization protocols for thalidomide-induced reactions is warranted.
