Data were collected from patients admitted for elective surgery at two Kathmandu hospitals.

11% of patients demonstrated poor understanding, while 33% had unsatisfactory comprehension.
37% achieved satisfactory understanding, and 19% showed excellent comprehension.
Patient education level significantly influenced the level of understanding.

Conclusions:

Nearly half of the surveyed patients exhibited unsatisfactory understanding of their pre-operative information.
Optimal understanding was achieved by only 19% of patients.
The medical profession must enhance efforts to improve patient comprehension of disease processes and treatments, reflecting a need to improve the quality of care.
