Summary

A rare benign plexiform neurilemoma was diagnosed in a child's intraoral mass using fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. FNA proved valuable for guiding surgical planning in pediatric cases.

Background:

Neurilemomas, also known as schwannomas, are typically benign nerve sheath tumors.
Plexiform neurilemomas are a less common, multinodular variant.
Intraoral masses in children require accurate diagnosis for appropriate management.

Observation:

A 6-year-old child presented with an intraoral (buccal) mass.
Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy cytology was performed.
Histologic examination of the excised specimen was conducted.

Findings:

The intraoral mass was diagnosed as a benign plexiform neurilemoma.
Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy cytology accurately identified the tumor type.
Histologic examination confirmed the FNA diagnosis.
