Area of Science:

  • Nephrology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Intrarenal cysts are typically of renal origin.
  • Pancreatic cysts are usually found in or near the pancreas.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with flank pain, suspected to be caused by a cystic renal mass.
  • The patient had well-controlled diabetes and hypertension.

Findings:

  • Nephrectomy revealed the cystic renal mass was of pancreatic origin.
  • This represents a rare case of an intrarenal true cyst of the pancreas.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the need for thorough pathological examination when diagnosing renal masses.
  • It expands the differential diagnosis for cystic renal lesions.
