Summary

South African plants were screened for anticancer activity, with 5.9% showing moderate potential. Medicinal use of plants may guide future anticancer drug discovery efforts.

  • A significant percentage (68%) of plant species with anticancer activity were traditionally used medicinally.
  • Traditional medicinal use can serve as a valuable indicator for selecting plants in anticancer screening programs.
